Finding himself alone in a captured German trench he was attacked by an enemy bombing party where he continued firing until his rifle was destoyed by a bomb. In withdrawing he found a man with both legs broken. He bandaged his legs and carried him into safety under heavy rifle and machine gun fire. His display of bravery and devotion to duty was most marked.
