- The Commonwealth War Graves Commission website shows Sampson's age at death of 23 years. He must have lowered his age when he enlisted in the 1st./5th. Battalion, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. Many men who were keen to serve lowered their age, in this case by about 17 years. RIP.
