- The parents of Ruth ACHESON were Dr. Jack ACHESON and Muriel Edith POOLE (1925-2015).
Jack ACHESON served during WWII as No. 428640, Flying Officer (Air Gunner), 9 Squadron, RAF. On the return journey from an operation to Arnsberg in Germany the Lancaster on which he was a crew member had an engine catch fire which led to the crew bailing out. This was his 31st. operation, so he had in fact more than completed a tour of operations. Taken prisoner, he later escaped to Turkey before returning to Australia and training and practising as a doctor post-war.
