Notes |
- Some problems with this record as it appears that at some stages Herbert Arthur PIPER was known as Albert Arthur PIPER. e.g. VIC Birth record 4280/1883. The facts that are irrefutable are those relating to his military service in WWI where he was an original ANZAC. His battalion, the 9th., was part of the covering force on the Gallipoli beaches which was among the first to go ashore on 25 April, 1915. He transferred to the Postal Corps on 5 Feb 1916 where he was promoted to Staff- Sergeant and later to Warrant Officer, Class 1. Lest We Forget.
