Mr Charles C Ching, of 98 McKillop Street, Geelong, who died on Friday, was well known throughout the Geelong district.

He was born at Barrabool in 1865, and his family went to Irrewillipe, near Colac, in 1867. Mr Ching engaged in grazing and dairying there, and was connected with Holy Anglican Church, and was secretary and also Grand Master of the local branch of the I.O.O.F.

Mr Ching later was engaged in pastoral pursuits at Nalangil, and he was associated with a number of local societies and also the Union Church there.

In 1910 he purchased the Mt. Mercer homestead, an extensive grazing property. He took a prominent part in the formation of the Ballarat branch of the Victorian Country Party and Farmers' Union, and took an active part in patriotic movements during the last war.

In 1921 he retired to Highton, where he was president of the local progress association, and secretary of St. John's Church of England and Treasurer of Geelong branch of the Church Missionary Society, a position which he occupied for 18 years.

In 1931 he took up residence in McKillop Street. At the time of his death he held a number of offices in connection with Chirst Church, Geelong. He was Vicar's Churchwarden, Treasurer, Synod representative and Parochial Nominator.

A keen bowler, Mr Ching was president of East Geelong Bowling Club for three years.

His death at the age of 75 years, followed an illness over the past 18 months. He leaves a widow and family of three daughters and one son.

A special service was held at Christ Church on Saturday morning, conducted by the vicar, the Rev. D M Deasey, assisted by the vicar of St. Paul's Geelong, The Rev. Dr. E Griffith. Afterwards the funeral took place to the private crematorium, Fawkner. Reference to Mr Ching's association with Christ Church will be made at services next Sunday by the Rev. D M Deasey.
