Subject:  Headstones: The Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, Ypres, West Flanders, Belgium. This monument commemorates the service and sacrifice of 54,896 soldiers of the Britain and the Commonwealth (other than those from New Zealand and Newfoundland) who died in the Ypres Salient during WWI, who have no known grave. This outstanding monument was opened in 1927 by Field Marshall Herbert PLUMER, 1st. Viscount Plumer (1857-1932) who was one of the few British generals whose reputation was enhanced by his service during WWI. The sacrifice of Lorne William John ALLIN (1896-1917) is remembered on the walls of this outstanding monument. Lest We Forget.
