- His headstone shows that he was awarded a Military Medal (MM) but the award is not listed on any of the web sites which record these awards. It should also be stated that the MM was awarded only to non-commissioned members of the Army and not to officers.
He was reported missing in action on 26 June 1941 during the Greek campaign and subsequently spent the remaining days of WWII in German POW camps.
