After successfully taking and passing through the village of Authie at 1815 hours the unit moved along the line of advance but was pinned down by one LMG (light machine gun) in a pillbox at the corner of the Abbeye d' Ardenne Saint-Germain-la-Blanche-Herbe and another LMG sniper on top of the abbey. During this time the Regina Rifles suffered several casualties including Captain White.

Died while on leave in England from pneumonia which was probably a result of Spanish Influenza which was at that time, sweepng through the soldiers on the Western Front. In the first place I give unto my Brother Bethuel Vincent one shilling. Item I give unto my Brother Thomas Vincent one shilling, Item I give unto my Bro: Robert Vincent one shilling. Item I give unto Richard Vincent one shilling. Item - I give unto William Vincent one shilling. Item I give unto my sister Mary Barry one shilling and one Pewter dish. Item I give unto - Mary the daughter of John Burrow one Pewter dish. Item I give unto all my - God chilldren one shilling, to each of them all the rest of my goods and chattles I give and bequeath unto my Wife whome I constitute and appoint My Executrix of this my last Will and Testament in wittness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 27th. day of - September in the year of our Lord 1743.

17394 Transcript of the will of Joseph VINSON

This is the last Will and Testament of me Joseph Vinson in the parish of Kilkhampton in the County of Cornwall who seriously considering the uncertainty of Human Life do intend to give and dispose of all my Worldly property in manner hereinafter mentioned. But first I recommend my Soul to the extensive ........ of that Almighty Supreme Being who gave it to me.

I hereby confirm the settlement made by me on my dear Wife on our Marriage and declare the same together with the Provision hereby made for her to be in lieu of all Dower and thirds which she might otherwise claim out of my Estates and Effects.

I give and bequeath unto my said Wife the sum of Twenty pounds of lawful Money current in Great Britain to be paid to her by my Executrix hereinafter named at the expiration of six months after my decease.

Also I give and bequeath unto my said Wife during her Widowhood only the use of House and Garden which I now occupy and also the use of as much of the Household Furniture as she may have occasion for.

Also I give and devise unto my Daughter Sophia Willcocks all that tenement or parcel of land commonly called or known by the name of Newhey now in occupation of Thomas Hocking situate in the parish of Kilkhampton aforesaid with all appurtenances thereto belonging to hold the same unto and to the use of my Daughter Sophia her Heirs and assigns for ever.

Also I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Sophia Willcocks the sum of One hundred pounds of lawful Money current in Great Britain to be paid to her by my Executrix hereinafter named at the expiration of twelve Months after my decease.

Also I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Grace Walter the sum of one hundred Pounds of lawful money as aforesaid to be paid to her by my executrix hereinafter named at the expiration of Twelve months after my decease.

I give and bequeath unto my nephew Joseph Vinson Walter the son of William and Grace Walter the sum of Twenty Pounds of lawful money as aforesaid to be paid to him twelve months after my decease.

I give and bequeath unto each of my two Granddaughters Elizabeth Ann Walter and Charlotte Walter the sum of Ten Pounds of lawful money as aforesaid to be paid to each of them by my Executrix hereinafter named at the expiration of twelve Months after my decease.

I give and bequeath unto my Niece Jane Hopgood the sum of Five Pounds to be paid to her immediately after my decease to buy her a suit of mourning.

I give and bequeath unto the four Daughters of my late Nephew Thomas Vinson the sum of Five pounds to be paid to them immediately to buy them suits of mourning.

And all the rest and residue of my Lands, Leasehold property and effects whatsoever and Wheresoever subject to my Debts, Legacies and all other expenses ........ I give and bequeath unto my daughter Betsey Adams whom I hereby constitute and appoint my whole and sole Executrix of this my last will ........

17419 Unfortunately (or fortunately) Geddie Thomas PEARSE was not involved in the original landing at ANZAC Cove as he was admitted suffering from pneumonia to hospital about a month before the landing. He landed on 26 May 1915 and apart from some time recovering from wounds and illness at Mudros he appears to have been on site until the evacuation. It appears that he was wounded at least twice during his service in the AIF. On 10 Mar1916 he was transferred to being a driver instead of a machine gunner.
