1121 Date of Action: 15 Jun 1915.
For gallantry and devotion to duty. For conspicuous bravery on 15/6/1915 at Givenchy. Finding himself alone in a captured German trench he was attacked by an enemy bombing party where he continued firing until his rifle was destoyed by a bomb. In withdrawing he found a man with both legs broken. He bandaged his legs and carried him into safety under heavy rifle and machine gun fire. His display of bravery and devotion to duty was most marked.

Though badly enfiladed both during the advance and on his objective he infused his men with an enthusiasm and dash that overcame all obstacles.
